Trust the sunscreen use and welcome September without damage.

The excursion to the sea, to enjoy the warm summer sun means one thing: sun protection. We have learned to always stock up on sunscreen for our body & face, with the desired SPF.

But what about the hair?

Research shows that many people do not take seriously how solar radiation causes negative effects, damaging both hair and hair color.

Although it is not characterized by the same degree of danger as the skin, it is good to show the necessary care if we wish to keep the hair healthy and alive all year round.

So, in addition to hats or scarves, which are recommended to be worn continuously on the beach, we can improve hair protection with special hair sprays or hair oils, which contain UV filters to protect the hair from the sun while at the same time moisturize and give shine.

What happens when hair is exposed to the sun?

Dehydration:

The sun can strip the natural moisture from the hair, leading to dehydration. The result? Dry, damaged ends and dull hair.

Break:

Continuous exposure to UVB rays causes protein loss from the hair. Therefore, the hair becomes weak, its durability decreases and it is more vulnerable to the scissors.

Color fading:

Color-treated hair needs regular care, as UVB rays alter the color, removing its shine. For blonde hair in particular, it is especially important to take protective measures. While exposure to the sun can help lighten their color, you need to be careful not to overdo it and cause unwanted discoloration.

The Role of Sunscreen Hair Products:

Their formulas usually contain antioxidant ingredients and UV filters that absorb the sun's rays and remove them from the hair. In this way, they contribute to the overall protection of the hair from oxidative damage and keep it healthy and shiny.

In addition, many types of hair sun protection contain moisturizing elements that help maintain moisture and elasticity of the hair. These nourish the hair, protecting it from dehydration and discomfort that can be caused by solar radiation.

Do you know how to apply a hair sunscreen?

1. Before applying the product, wash well. This will remove any residue or dirt from the hair.

In case you are already at the beach, before entering the sea, wet your hair with fresh water to avoid the direct effect of chlorine and salt on the hair.

2. Dry them gently with a towel so that they are not super wet, but still slightly damp.

3. Shake the sunscreen bottle well to mix the ingredients.

4. Pour a small amount into your hands and spread it on your palms or if the product is in spray form, spray from a distance of about 25 cm.

5. Start applying it along the hair, from root to tip. Focus on the areas that are most vulnerable to solar radiation.

6. Comb them with gentle movements to break up the product evenly.

7. Let your hair dry naturally and use a hat for added protection during sun exposure.

Extra tips:

If you have long hair, braid it and then proceed to use it.

After swimming, rinse the hair with fresh water and repeat the same process.

What should you look for when buying a hair sunscreen?

SPF protection: Choose a product with an index of 30 or even higher for effective UV protection.

Filters: Make sure the product contains UVA and UVB filters, as these two types can cause damage to your hair.

Heat protection: Choose a heat protection product, especially if you plan to use styling tools like straighteners or blow dryers.

Moisturizers: Look for products that contain: glycerin, panthenol or natural oils, which help retain moisture in the hair.

Note: Always follow the manufacturer's instructions provided on the sunscreen product package for proper application and frequency of use.
